Pronombres interrogativos
Los pronombres interrogativos ('interrogative pronouns') se usan para realizar preguntas. Son invariables en género y número.
Los pronombres interrogativos son:
Who | ¿quién? |
Whom | ¿a quién? |
Whose | ¿de quién? |
What | ¿qué? |
Which | ¿cuál? |
El pronombre interrogativo "who".
Se usa para preguntar por personas y puede actuar sujeto o como objeto.
Cuando funciona como sujeto la estructura es:
Pronombre interrogativo + verbo + complementos ?

Who is your father? .
¿Quién es tu padre?.
Who is playing football?.
¿Quién está jugando al fútbol?.
Who came first?.
¿Quién llegó antes?.
Who opened the door?.
¿Quién abrió la puerta?.
Cuando funciona como objeto la estructura es:
Pronombre interrogativo + auxiliar + verbo + complementos ?
Who did you visit yesterday?
¿A quién visitaste ayer?
El pronombre interrogativo whom
En inglés formal cuando el pronombre "who" es el objeto del verbo o va con una preposición se usa "whom". Aunque hoy en día, sobre todo en inglés moderno hablado, se suele preferir "who".
Ejemplos
Whom /who did you see yesterday?.
¿A quién viste ayer?.
With whom do you come ?.
Who do you come with?.
¿Con quién vienes?.
To whom did you send the postcards?.
Who did you send the postcards to?.
¿A quién le enviaste las postales?.
Cuando usemos la construcción con who habrá que colocar la preposición al final de la oración.
El pronombre interrogativo whose
Se usa para preguntar por la posesión de algo.
Whose is this dog?.
¿De quién es este perro?
Whose are these toys?.
¿De quién son estos juguetes?
Esta idea de posición también puede ser expresada con expresiones como:
To whom this dog belong?.
¿A quién pertenece este perro?.
To whom these toys belong?.
¿A quién pertenece estos juguetes?.
El pronombre interrogativo what
Sirve para preguntar por cosas en general.
Ejemplos
What do you need?.
¿Qué necesitas?.
What is this?.
¿Qué es esto?.
What is your name?.
¿Cómo te llamas?.
What is your address?.
¿Cuál es tu dirección?.
El pronombre interrogativo which
Sirve para seleccionar una persona, animal o cosa entre varias.
Ejemplos
Which is your book?.
¿Cuál es tu libro?.
Which is your girlfriend?.
¿Cuál es tu novia?.
