You must have gone through this word couple of times but what does it mean? Quadrilaterals mean a polygon with four sides. Mathematicians define a polygon as a two-dimensional shape that has at least 3 straight sides and all sides are joined up. That means if you see a curve side, that is not a polygon and if it is not a polygon, that is not a quadrilateral either. There are two conditions for quadrilateral, the first one is that it should be a polygon, meaning all the conditions of the polygon are applied. The second is that it should have exactly four sides!
Speaking about quadrilateral sides, since it has four sides, there will be two diagonals. That is a must too! Not to mention that the interior angles of a quadrilateral equal . There are many types of quadrilaterals and each quadrilateral deserves its own resource. That is why we dedicated this resource to a brief introduction to all types of quadrilaterals. For more information on any specific quadrilateral, you can click the link.
Types of Quadrilaterals
Parallelograms
A parallelogram is a quadrilateral that has parallel sides in pairs. They are classified as follows:
Square
A square has 4 equal sides and 4 right angles.
Rectangle
A rectangle has equal opposite sides and 4 right angles.
Rhombus
A rhombus has four equal sides and equal opposite angles.
Rhomboid
A rhomboid has opposite sides that are parallel and equal.
Trapezoid
Trapezoids are quadrilaterals with only two parallel sides. They are classified as follows:
Right Trapezoid
A right trapezoid has two right angles.
Isosceles Trapezoid
An isosceles trapezoid has two of its non-parallel sides equal in length.
Scalene trapezoid
A scalene trapezoid doesn't have equal sides or angles.
I’m just curious if the area between the polygon and the circumscribed circle has a name.
